its a great little netbook, I use it for doing homework and programming, other than that its not great for much else, the screen is too small to watch anything the speaker quality is okay but not anything special.If youre looking for a small portable netbook to do some light work (word processing, web viewing, programming, etc) then this is perfect. Just don’t expect to do any heavy computing

Overall I gave it a 5 star since the price point is good as a starter kit with all the key ingredients. If I had to do it over I may have chosen a DIY from the ground up. I purchased it and it does not work. Sorry to say, this is a piece of garbage. Within two weeks of very light use the wire cover separated from both the plug and transformer. I was afraid to continue to use it. Luckily I discovered my original Lenovo power supply was fine, the laptop’s battery was replaced under warranty and trashed this third party piece of trash.

A friend of mine bought this netbook and asked me to add Linux to it. I installed Kubuntu “Lucid Lynx” 10.4.2 in dual boot mode. Lucid slid on like a silk glove. Everything worked “out of the box”. Installed Skype and it worked well, too. The internal mic and webcam gave excellent results. It streamed a Tom Hanks movie from YouTube seamlessly in full screen mode.I purchased the similar Acer Aspire AO521-3782 from Amazon as an Xmas gift for my wife. It, too, is running well and she loves it. She especially loves the portability of it, and its long battery life. She’ll take it off the shelf, do her browsing and email, and the occasion photo session with DigiKam, plus watching videos. She can do that 3 or 4 times before the battery gets low and she has to plug it in. With the HDMI cable (Belkin F3U133-10 Hi-Speed HDNMI) I purchased from Amazon she can plug her Acer into our VISO HDTV and stream the movie to the “big screen”! I also bought her the car charger so she can take it with her and be able to recharge it while using it in the car. The last piece of equipment I bought for her Acer was the Samsung USB 2.0 8x DVD Writer External Optical Drive for Mac and PC SE-S084D/TSBS burner. It requires two USB ports to power it but it works VERY WELL with both Win7 and Linux.This Acer, and my wife’s, came with only 1GB of RAM, so one additional purchase really makes the Acer One’s fast: replacing the 1GB stick with a 2GB stick: 2GB PC3-10600 (1333Mhz) 204 pin DDR3 SODIMM (CNF)for $28 plus shipping. The speed increase when browsing, or running more than one app at a time (browser + email), I estimate to be nearly double. OF course, FireFox is always faster when you set up one pipeline for each tab you plan to open. I set up 8 pipelines. (URL is about:config – then search for “pipeline”)There is a known problem with the male power plug pin breaking off, so take ordinary care when inserting the power cord that you plug it straight into the power socket. Do not push it in at an angle and let the “hole guide it in”. You’ll catch the top of the pin with the plug and bend it.

If you play 3D games, Skyrim, in my case, this card gives the major Bang for the buck. I can’t believe the improvement this card brings out:I can play games at higher resolution and detail, real eye candy.Game play is much more fluid, makes maneuvering easier and more enojoyable.You don’t need $300 cards to enjoy 3D games.

Bottom line: this is a great modem and it works with Comcast. Comcast just doesn’t have its act together. This modem is not only on their approved list, it has a three star rating, which, according to Comcast, is “the highest and most thorough level of testing.” When the cable installer got here (I got a new line installed), he said that this modem was NOT on the Comcast list. Since I still had my DSL line working, I showed him that not only did Comcast approve the modem but that Comcast thoroughly tested it. He had to call the “office” to activate the internet service. The “office” didn’t want to set up internet service for this modem; the “office” stated that this wasn’t an approved modem. Well, he recalled the “office” and got someone else and they set up the service. I’ve been happy ever since. I’m supposed to get up to 20 Mbps download and 4 Mbps upload. My computers are connected wirelessly. Speednet states that I am getting 20 to 25 Mbps downloads and the upload speed is between 3 and 3.5 Mbps. I’ve gotten similar values with speakeasy and other internet speed testing sites. I have a lot of devices connected: three computers (wireless), two TVs (one wired, one wireless), three different game consoles (connected to the wired TV), two Nintendo 3DS (wireless), one printer (wireless), and an iPod Touch (wireless). At times all of these devices are running at the same time – the computers are streaming You Tube videos, one of the TVs is streaming Netflix, etc. The modem handles all of it effortlessly. I’m really pleased with this modem.

I just received my IMP1000 from New Trent earlier this week. I was looking for a reliable way to easily charge my iphone and ipad when traveling, especially on long flights. This seems to be the device to bring along. I recently flew overseas with their IMP880 and it performed wonderfully. I was looking for a bit greater capacity though, because I use both an iphone (was the 3g, now the 4) and the ipad, and wanted to be able to charge both of them when I don’t have access to an electrical outlet.The unit’s size is great for traveling. It’s about the same size and weight of a portable hard drive, which these days means it’s small and will easily slip into a briefcase, overnight bag, purse, etc. The retractable cord makes it easy to hook up with the mobile device without any strain on the connections.The unit’s indicator light is simple to see and determine the amount of charge remaining. While charging the unit itself those lights let you know the progress. And after charging a mobile device, the unit slows down to a trickle charge.The placement of the button is an improvement over New Trents IMP880, which I also own. That button could accidentally be turned on because it actually protrudes a bit from the case, and sits at an angle. The IMP1000′s is flush with the case’s edge, and the button itself a bit recessed which should prevent that from happening.I haven’t drained the power from a full charge yet, so not sure how long it lasts, but after topping off my iphone and ipad a few times, it still shows a full charge. Of course you can use the device while it’s charging.The IMP1000 comes with iphone/ipad adapter, along with a few others (mini usb, etc).Good design, seems well built, and I know from past experience with New Trent’s customer support that they are very responsive. Recommend you give it a try if you need a back up battery.
