For the price, this laptop is tough to beat. I can’t speak for the bloatware referenced for other Acer laptops, as I immediately reloaded it with Windows 7 Pro from my Action Pack. The screen is of the glossy variety and is quite bright. Colors seem vibrant, the viewing angles are decent, and the one I received had no dead pixels. Overall, I like the feel of the laptop; it is fairly light, but in spite of that feels sturdy enough. There is no perceivable flex, and the lid moves firmly and smoothly. I particularly like the finish of the shell’s plastic and the chiclet keyboard. I originally thought that the offset touch-pad (due to the 10-key presumably) would aggravate me, but it doesn’t. Touch-pad response is quite good, though the button takes a bit more pressure compared to others. Noise levels are very low, and heat does not seem to be an issue so far. I will update with WEI scores when I can and any additional observations as it gets more use. For a general laptop (home use), I can’t really see having made a better choice. As for the four-star review, no one ever gets the max rating from me, so don’t let the loss of a star deter you from giving this laptop a whirl.(Update) WEI scores are as follows:Processor: 6.9 Memory: 5.9 Graphics: 3.5 Gaming graphics: 5.2 Hard disk: 5.8Scored on a fresh load of Windows 7 Pro (x64) with no additional software loaded.(Final Update) After using it for a while, probably the least liked component is going to be the screen, which became a bit washed out after I settled in for an extended use. So, I loaded up the “AMD Vision Engine Control” software and dropped the gamma to 0.5, which markedly improved the appearance. For the money, however, I still have zero complaints and highly recommend this laptop for general use. I was even able to finally play the Amnesia demo, something which I had not been able to do on my old clunkers. It wasn’t blazing through the frames, but it was at least playable.

I picked out a similar dual-core model for a friend of mine earlier this year and just got this 4-core a couple of weeks ago. It all works great (with a little doctoring), it loads, it burns, it’s fast and graphics are nice. Screen is bright. Case is nice and doesn’t feel to cheap. This chicklet style keyboards feel a bit BLOCKEE to type quickly with but it’s not that bad and the keys feel like they will survive years of abuse. Had to test the 4-core. I could play 3 movies from the hard drive while editing another using 3 different programs without a glitch.. except for a moment after opening each of the last two. Two videos where HD or better. Wireless is strong. Burner is fast. Camera works well. Not sure of the resolution but appears decent. Also not to bad in low light compared to most webcams I’ve seen. Movies look nice! GoogleEarth runs sweet! This has 1 4Gb stick in it and 2 slots available so I see a real inexpensive upgrade to 8Gb soon. It’s quiet even under load.Cons: I don’t like the usb inputs on the front right especially do to the fact that this has a number pad.. so if you use a mouse or trackball like me it has to be a little further right if the USB’s are to be occupied. There is one USB located on the left side. The per-installed ACER GAMES is POISON! I recognized a service running as a type of malware after noticing the mouse intermediately locking up the first day I used this laptop. So first thing you should do is uninstall the ACER GAMES and your fast machine will run the way it should. Then uninstall all of the other software that you don’t need on it. It comes with Norton so I replace with Rising. Use Norton Removal Tool because not even windows can get rid of all of it. – It’s a nice quality inexpensive 4-core machine. It’s price is low partially do to the fact that the hard drive is not extremely fast and the battery life is on the low side 3.5hrs. Good enough for me.
